While the 2022 World Cup Qualifier taking place in parallel with V-League 2019, Vietnam will have very little time to prepare for the opening match on Thai home soil.

According to the results of the draw, Vietnam is drawn in Group G along with rivals: UAE, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Coach Park Hang-seo side has an away match against Thailand on September 5.

Vietnam has only a few short days to summon up. Specifically, according to the schedule announced earlier by the organizing committee of V.League 2019, round 23 will end on September 1 by two matches Becamex Binh Duong - Song Lam Nghe An and Hanoi FC - Viettel FC.

V-League fixtures round 23

These are teams with many national players; most of them are the main pillars including Quang Hai, Tien Dung, Que Ngoc Hai, Hung Dung, Van Hau, etc. This means that ‘Golden Dragons’ will only have three days to gather in the national team before the match against the great rival Thailand.

With such a dense schedule, the players' physical strength can hardly reach the best state. That is not to mention the unexpected injuries can happen as Dinh Trong’s case right before the 2019 King’s Cup.

It is unclear whether or not VFF and VPF plan to change the match schedule, but if they want to achieve good results in the match against Thailand, Vietnam needs time to prepare carefully. Especially when Thai people are very eager to defeat Vietnam to "revenge" after recent failures.
