Malaysia press wrote that Vietnamese Australian striker Ryan Nguyen Gilbert was called up to the U18 Vietnam yet he denied the news.
The Vietnamese Australian affirmed that playing for U18 Vietnam in AFF U18 Championship is not true.
Malaysia media assumed that coach Hoang Anh Tuan summoned the Vietnamese Australian to U18 tournament. The Semuanya Bola disclosed that was Ryan Nguyen Gilbert.
Ryan Nguyen, 16, is playing for Shah Alam Antlers in the amateur tournament in Malaysia. Shah Alam Antlers sends their wish to the midfielder to play for Vietnam national team.
Ryan denied playing for U18 Vietnam.
Shah Alam Antlers wrote: “We will not have Rayn’s service in Klang Valley League M4 2019 because he will follow U18 Vietnam call-ups. The young player joined Shah Alam Antlers in January 2018, he had an impressive debut at Community Challenge Cup 2019, facing Kerteh FC.
We would love to have Ryan Nguyen in the FA Cup squad for 2019. But the Malaysian Football Federation does not allow to register players under 18. However, we strongly urge Ryan Nguyen to succeed with Vietnam U18".
However, Ryan nguyen denied all the news from Malaysia media and Shah Alam Antlers, he stated: “Unfortunately, It is a miscommunation. It did not get called up. I got asked to go train with U21 Ho Chi Minh Fc only. I would like to be realistic with my dreams. If Vietnam is the right place for me, then I am there”.
In the AFF U18 tournament, U18 Vietnam is located in Group B with very strong competitors including Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia. This is considered the death group of the tournament. Group B matches with the participation of U18 Vietnam will start from August 7 at Thong Nhat Stadium (HCMC). In the opening match, Vietnam will meet Malaysia at 7:30PM.
